Benefits of Young Child Swimming
3 years to 5-6 years+ towards independence
We move seamlessly from toddler swimming into young child activities, preparing children for independent swimming. Combined with play there is more focus on stroke styles and specific water skills. We feel it is very beneficial to continue to share classes with parent or carer to ensure a smooth transition finding just the right time to “let go”. This is an individual journey based on trust and communication. On completing their time at Joyful Dolphin, we aim for children to be confident and ready to move on to independent classes.
- Communication – Development of the relationship between parent/carer - child and teacher - child
- Physical benefits – strengthening muscles, supporting balance and alignment of the body and developing co ordination
- Psychological benefits – Growth in confidence, interaction and the development of trust
- Cognitive benefits – Development of language, brain maturation, learning to follow instruction and social skills
- Specific swimming skills – the development of correct body position, swimming strokes and breathing techniques
- Multi- sensory experience – Particularly lovely to have close touch still with their parent and to feel the qualities of water
- Fun transition to swimming – No pressure or anxiety to the children, ensuring a love of water into the future
My daughter greatly benefited from the classes, her confidence and joy in the water is something I am so very happy with, and it will be a good base from which to start independent swimming lessons.
